Additional Study:
Art Background: John has been creating and selling his work at street fairs and fine art shows in the Midwest and Western states since 1969. His work has included batik, hand- pulled lithography, woodworking, glass sand-blasting and painting in oil and acrylic. His current body of work is a style of painting that he began developing in early 1990. Many layers of paint and techniques are involved. “I consider my paintings to be primarily landscapes. I paint the four basic elements ( earth, wind, fire and water ). This was actually pointed out to me initially by a child who had been studying my work. This observation gave me focus. I now knew what I had been painting and why. Having grown up in the Midwest I became fascinated at an early age by the awesome power and excitement of a good thunderstorm, only to be followed by the peaceful calm of the aftermath. Through the use of color and brush technique I strive to show interaction between the earth and sky, to create studies in harmony and contrast and to express the energy, electricity and turbulence of nature along with its counterparts in tranquility and serenity.” Major influential artists in John’s work have included Picasso, Gottlieb, and more recently Rothko and Pollack John is a member of the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery in Omaha’s Old Market.
