Laird Nygren was born in Chester, Pennsylvania and is 36 years old. He is married and has two sons. Laird maintains the East Butler School in Brainard and enjoys creating sculptures for his 8 acre farmstead.

Laird is known for being able to make or fix almost anything. This comes from his unique ability to visualize in three dimensions and then create from those ideas. Laird currently works in metal and stone using both traditional blacksmithing and modern welding techniques. He takes pride in using recycled wood, metal, and stone in his sculptures.

Laird’s viewpoint of his work: “I have always had a love for nature and want my sculptures to reflect nature’s asymmetrical balance and constant flux and change. Building sculptures allows me to work in three dimensions which I can then influence from all sides and angles.”
